Career Tech May 5, 2026, millage request: Absentee ballots will be mailed beginning next week, March 26, 2026. Information about ballot language can be found in the accompanying graphic.
Our next Title VI Parent Committee meeting will be held on Thursday, April 23rd at 6pm in the Middle School Large Group Room. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided. For any questions regarding the meeting, please contact Claire Bowerman at cbowerman@harborps.org.
On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, voters will be asked to consider a proposed Char-Em ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) vocational millage. The millage was first approved by voters in 1996. Please see the attached images for additional information about the proposal.
The HSMS Learning Showcase has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 24.
[ALERT] Harbor Springs Public Schools will be closed Wednesday March 18th due to inclement weather. This decision was made after careful collaboration with our neighboring school districts and the County Road Commission. Their reports indicate that while crews are working hard, side roads and several main bus routes remains unsafe for travel.

However, Sunday's weather looks even worse, so we are officially moving Sunday's performance to Saturday at 2pm. All pre-purchased tickets for any performance will be honored at every show! If you have already purchased your ticket and are unable to attend a show, we ask that you consider it a donation to our Theater Arts Program.
Our students have worked so hard on this production; get here safely, but let's fill this performing arts center!

𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰... that ANY student in ANY Char-Em ISD school district can attend ANY Career and Technical Education program, in ANY district? That makes the reach of Char-Em's high school CTE programs even greater! More than 80 percent of high school students in our ISD take at least one CTE class - an extremely high percentage compared to peers across the state.
With the variety offered through 23 distinct programs taught in more than 50 classrooms throughout the ISD, there is something for every student to try their hand and find a passion in vocational education!

The Harbor Springs Board of Education Regular Meeting time on Monday, March 9 has been changed to 4:45. The location will be in the Middle School Large Group Room.
Dear Harbor Springs Staff and Families,
On February 5, the HSPS Board invited me to consider extending my service by removing the word “Interim” from my title. This was unexpected and deeply affirming. Over the past six months, my admiration for this district and my enjoyment of living and working in Harbor Springs have only grown. At the February 9 board meeting, I agreed to serve as Superintendent of Harbor Springs Public Schools for the next two years.
Staff received an update on February 11 regarding my continuation in this role. A letter to families with the same information was drafted and scheduled to be shared on the afternoon of February 17. That letter was not sent because, on the morning of February 17, I experienced a medical issue while in my office.
I recognize that I could leave it there. However, serving as a superintendent requires surrendering some degree of personal privacy. Trust is the foundation of meaningful relationships, and trust requires direct and honest communication.
In that spirit, I can share that I experienced a significant cardiac event. Thanks to the quick actions of school staff and the response of police and paramedics, I was stabilized and transported to McLaren, where I received excellent care from skilled and attentive medical professionals who communicated clearly and consistently with my wife and me.
On February 22, I returned to Grand Rapids in anticipation of meeting with my primary care physician and a cardiologist to determine next steps. The Board is allowing me to work remotely, as I am able, for the time being.
The events of the past few weeks have brought to mind a quote from the Stoic philosopher Epictetus: “It is not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.” My hope and prayer are to respond thoughtfully, with integrity, and with a continued focus on serving this community and, most importantly, our students.
