February 5, 2026
The Harbor Springs Board of Education completed the first round of superintendent interviews on the evening of February 4. The board interviewed four candidates over two nights. Each candidate demonstrated competence, professionalism, and a strong commitment to public education. The board is grateful for the time and energy each candidate invested in the interview process.
Following the interviews, the board spent considerable time reviewing feedback from staff and community members and consulting with its search consultant, Dr. John Scholten. After thoughtful discussion, the board voted unanimously to pause the search process in order to engage in a conversation with the district’s current interim superintendent, Dr. Scott Korpak, regarding the possibility of extending his service to Harbor Springs.
The board remains committed to a transparent and thoughtful process and continues to value the importance of selecting the best leadership for the district. The board anticipates determining next steps within the coming week and will communicate further once a decision has been made.
Thank you,
Paul Fairbairn
President, HSPS Board of Education
