Dear Blackbird staff and families,

I am pleased to share that Danielle Corcoran has accepted the role of Director of the Blackbird Educational Center. We are excited to welcome her into this important leadership position and into the daily life of Blackbird.

Danielle brings more than two decades of experience in education, with a career grounded in student advocacy, strong communication, and thoughtful leadership. She has spent much of her professional life working with diverse learners, building inclusive learning environments, and helping students and families navigate both academic expectations and life transitions. Her work as a JMG Specialist through Michigan Works has further strengthened her ability to connect education, workforce readiness, and community partnerships in meaningful ways .

While Danielle’s professional background is not rooted exclusively in early childhood education, what stood out throughout the interview process was her deep respect for early learning and her clear understanding that strong programs are built by listening, learning, and supporting the expertise already in place. Danielle is an experienced instructional leader who knows how to ask good questions, build trust with staff, and create conditions where children and adults thrive. She approaches leadership with humility, curiosity, and a genuine commitment to growth, both her own and that of the organization she serves.

Danielle also brings a strong foundation in literacy, student support, and program development, supported by an advanced degree in Reading. Her experience mentoring educators, leading teams, and managing complex programs will serve Blackbird well as we continue to strengthen our services for children and families .

Danielle’s first day was Tuesday, and she will shadow Adrienne for the rest of this week. There will be opportunities for introductions and conversation as she settles into her role, and we look forward to formally welcoming her together. I am confident that Danielle’s leadership, combined with the strong foundation already in place, positions Blackbird well for the future.

Sincerely,

Scott Korpak, Ed.D.

Interim Superintendent
