A Presentation That’s Both Urgent and Important
Our own active Community Against Substance Abuse (C.A.S.A.) Committee, with the support of Larry and Nancy Beck, has arranged for an outstanding not-your-average drug prevention program, which will be held on Tuesday, November 28th at 7:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. This exciting, possibly life-saving opportunity for our students should not be missed.
Ginger Katz, founder of the Courage to Speak Foundation, lost her son Ian to a drug overdose in 1996. Since her son’s death, Ginger has taken her very personal journey public in order to prevent this tragedy from happening to anyone else. You might just be completely unprepared for how powerful her story will be.
Through Ms. Katz’s presentation, we learn that substance abuse crosses all borders. It does not discriminate, nor does it matter who you are or what race you are, how financially sound you are, or if you’re homeless or have a family who loves you dearly. It can happen to anyone--none of us are immune. Once we make the connection that we are not immune to the perils that lie waiting for our children, we will understand why it is important for us as a community to stand together and protect our children from the vulnerabilities and weaknesses that threaten their safety. Drugs can and do shatter lives every day.
I highly recommend to each parent and community member to hear this presentation next Tuesday. Everyone is welcome and parents of children ages pre-school to 12th grade can benefit from Ms. Katz’s message. It is never too early to communicate to your children the danger of drugs!
