My name is Daniel C. Bower and I teach a kindergarten/first grade looping program at Blackbird Elementary. My nickname was Danny when I was in elementary school, but now my friends call me Dan (or “Mr. B.”).
I earned my Bachelor’s of Science degree in psychology from the University of California at Irvine. I continued my education at the University of California at Riverside where I earned another degree, one in elementary education. I taught third grade for 3 years before moving to northern Michigan. I have taught either kindergarten or first grade in Harbor Springs since 1990. During the 2004-2005 school year I was selected to be a Fulbright exchange teacher. I was assigned to teach first grade in Wales, and this rewarding experience allowed me to grow professionally and make personal connections with educators overseas. I earned my Master’s degree in administration from Grand Valley State University in 1995.
I love working with young children, and I am proud of my profession. I believe I am making a contribution to our future every day!
My colleagues often call me creative and innovative. My students often call me “silly” or “funny”. I think they are both right.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year!
