Athletic Bond Information

On Tuesday, November 7th, voters in the Harbor Springs Public Schools’ attendance area have the opportunity to decide on a request of $4.2M for a bond to fund an upgrade and renovation of all existing outdoor athletic facilities including Reynolds Field, Ottawa Stadium, the baseball field at Kosequat Park and the Tennis complex.  These changes include parking lots, seating, site improvements, scoreboards, fencing, concession stands and restrooms.  In addition to the athletic changes, additional equipment and furniture for the High School would be provided.
The length of the proposed bond is 7 years.  Currently, homeowners and businesses pay 2.65 mills on current outstanding district bonds.  Because of district refinancing of these current bonds (five times in last 10 years), the 2.65 millage rate is scheduled to go down to 1.70 mills.  The district is proposing maintaining the current 2.65 mills over the next seven years to fund this bond.  Thus, the millage rate will not go down as scheduled if this proposal passes, but will stay at the current level.
