Level 1 through 6

The American Red Cross has revamped their Learn to Swim program. Certain criteria for Levels 1-6 have changed. Please take time to review the new criteria before you register your child. If you have any questions please contact the pool office.
During the winter session you have a choice of classes in either late afternoons, early evenings, and Saturday mornings. All classes meet once a week for 8 weeks. The Level 1 through 6 classes are 50 minutes long. Each class is limited to 10 students per class. If your child is 7 years or older and has no swimming skills, register for Level 1 & 2.

Beginner Skills
Level 1 & 2 are taught together and are the introductory level for children 7 and older.
Level 1 & 2 is offered on:
Tuesday afternoons
4:30-5:20 pm
Saturday mornings
11:00 - 11:50 pm

To be in Level 3, you must have passed Level 1 & 2 or be able to swim on your front and back for 5 yards, jump into chest deep water, and go completely underwater.
Level 3 is offered on:
Wednesday evenings
6:35 - 7:25 pm or
Thursday afternoons
4:30-5:20 pm
Saturday mornings
9:00-9:50 am

Intermediate Skills
Level 4 and 5 are intermediate levels geared towards stroke development and endurance.
To be placed in Level 4 you must have passed Level 3 or be able to swim on your front and back for 15 yards, jump into deep water, elementary backstroke kick for 15 yards, and perform a kneeling dive.
Level 4 is offered on:
Thursday afternoons 
4:30 - 5:20 pm
Thursday evening
6:35 - 7:25 pm
Saturday mornings
10:00-10:50 am
To be placed into Level 5 you must have passed Level 4 or be able to swim front and back crawl for 25 yards, elementary backstroke for 15 yards, breaststroke and sidestroke kick for 15 yards, and perform a standing dive.

Saturday mornings
10:00 - 10:50 am

Advanced Skills
Level 6 has experienced the biggest change. The American Red Cross eliminated Level 7 and placed those skills along with Level 6 into 4 separate groups.
These groups are:
Level 6: Fitness Swimmer
Level 6: Personal Water Safety
Level 6: Lifeguard Readiness
Level 6: Fundamentals of Diving.
All four groups focus on the 4 competitive strokes and turns along with skills specific to each title. For a breakdown of each section criteria please click on the link below.
Level 6 is only offered on:

Level 6: Fundamentals of Diving will be offered during Spring
Level 6: Fitness Swimmer will be offered during Winter
