Mrs. Dunn
Spanish
I'm Liz Dunn, the Spanish teacher at Blackbird and Shay. I am so excited to share the Hispanic language and culture with your children. I graduated from Marquette University with degrees in Spanish and Elementary Education. I also spent a year at the University of Madrid, Spain through a study abroad program. I completed my student teaching in Wisconsin and then taught grades 1-4 in Stockholm, Sweden.
The elementary Spanish program is the beginning of the K-12 Spanish curriculum. Children in grades 1-5 will have 45 minute blocks of Spanish. Kindergarten classes will have 25 minute classes. The children will study units of target vocabulary through repetition, question and answer, music, games, movies, stories and cultural activities.
There are four main goals of the Spanish program at Shay.
- Develop listening comprehension.
- Understand and speak Spanish vocabulary words and short phrases.
- Develop an understanding and appreciation of Hispanic culture.
- Give students confidence and motivate them to continue learning Spanish.
